- Long ago a priest lived in Clogheen and his name was Father Sheehy and was parish Priest of that town. About the 17th. Century a man disappeared in circumstances that left little doubt that he had been murdered. Fr. Sheehy and a few other men were arrested on the charge of murdering the man. The charge of the prisoners at Clonmel was supported by perjured evidence, before a partisan judge and a packed jury and resulted in their condemnation. Despite serious flaws in the evidence Fr. Sheehy and another man, with a declaration of innocence on their lips were hanged at Clonmel in 1766. The burial of : The execution of three of his comrades took place at Clogheen a few weeks later and the story is related about the firesides of Tipperary. The jurymen who found him guilty met their death in more or less tragic circumstances. Down to the present time a tradition lingers among the country people that a cloud hangs over Clonmel, and that every(over)(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
