(continued from previous page)he was saying Hail Mary the more William Lynch was saying "Glory John." They lied the dead person with ropes and put her sitting up in the bed.
- My grandfather told me about these customs. He lives at Newtown Annes. Long ago when a person died they left him in the house for two nights and they buried him the following day. They carried the coffin on a bearer on their shoulders. A bearer is made of tars sticks about seven or eight feet long with two sticks nailed across and the coffin was tied on them so that it would not fall off. Four men carried the bearer. Every man took a turn of carrying it. The people used be casining going after the coffin.
