“Once on a time a widow and a handsome daughter lived in a house...”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the water as usual. It was dark, and she went astray, so she began to cry. At the same time she heard something fluttering over her head. She laughed at the idea of a bird coming for her. The following day the raven came for her and took her away under his wing to a beautiful castle. She began to cry again for her mother. "Dont cry" said the raven, "I can be a man by day, and a raven by night, or a man by night and a raven by day." I will have the birds of the air by day." she said. After a few days he put her to turn a room of gold in the castle. She took twenty pounds and sent it to her mother. When he came back in the night as a man he missed the money.
