  1. The Old Castle
The Castle is situated on the right bank of the river Suir. It is about 200 yards from the river and the ruins of an old road can still be seen from the castle to the river. It is said that there was a drawbridge across the river, for the protection of the castle. The castle is about six-stories high, but there is no roof on it. It is plain to be seen that the castle was built at two different periods. The south side, which is the oldest has corners and is covered with ivy, the walls are from eight to ten feet in breadth. In the other part of the castle the walls are from three to five feet in breadth, and the corners are square. The stairs is at the south side of the castle. It is a spiral stairs, with two rooms. The first room which is said locally to be the parlour has a mantle-piece of carved stone with the initials F. P. carved on it. There is no glass in the windows, but the stone sashes are there yet. There is no roof on the castle now, but the remains of a roof are clear to be seen yet. The local people say the roof was made of lead, and that the lead was stolen. It is said that there is treasure hidden in two different parts of the castle
