  1. I often made a pop-gun, I got an elder stick and I cut the middle out of it with a knife. Then I got an ash stick and I fitted it so as to make it air-tight. Then I put a piece of raw potato in the elder, and I shoved the ash stick down. The pressure of air drove the piece of potato out very quickly.

  2. I often made a crib. I got two elder sticks and I made a hole in the end of each stick. Then I got two ash sticks and I put them through the holes in the elder sticks. Then I got two pieces of twine. I got a gouloge to hold the twine. Then I got ash sticks and I wound the twine around them. This is how I set the crib. I got a briar and I wound it around the elders that were on the bottom. Then I got a gouloge and I left one end on the briar and the other end on the crib. When the bird goes in she walks on the
