Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The making of a special kind of quilts was known as "quilting". Long ago people made their own quilts. They used red or some coloured flannel for the top and white flannel for the other side and wadding or some other heavy stuff as interlining to put between the flannels. There was a special quilting frame made of two long pieces of wood about six feet long and two shorter pieces of wood for the width of the quilt. The long pieces of wood had holes up the side to which the flannel was sewn. When fully set the frame was oblong or square but the side pieces of wood could be pushed in and out along the the end pieces and the piece of quilt not being worked upon could be rolled up on one of the side pieces of wood.
    When all was ready to start quilting, the pattern was put on with chalk. It was then sewn over with a special quilting needle and quilting thread. The raised pattern was called
