O'Shaughnessy was specially honoured in the United States for the remarkable success of such a ponderous undertaking. Unfortunately he didn't live to see the Dam officially opened for he died just as preparations were being made for that great day and on which occasion he was to be signally honoured. His death occured in 1936.
