Unfortunately he didn't live to see the Dam officially opened for he died just as preparations were being made for that great day and on which occasion he was to be signally honoured. His death occured in 1936.
- People in this locality speak of a great walker named Peter Byrnes, who lived in Knocknaboula. He was a cattle dealer and used to walk to all the fairs.
