  1. A Song

On the forth of September 1916, some dashing young fellows that day were seen

This song was composed by Seán O'Mahony of Lyre, Araglin and Edmond Lenihan, Araglin in the time of the Civil war 1920 when Collis's castle was burnt by the I.R.A. soldiers.
It gives me much sorrow this tale to relate,
About the disaster that happened so late,
The rebels around me have got the wind up,
For the past year or two I haven't the life of a pup,
And Araglin Barracks were the first they attacked,
    They gagged Constable Malley,
    Which drove him near daft,
Shanley and Snawfall to Mass they had been,
And when came home, sure no guns could be seen.
At the end of last year they refused me the rent,
Anderson and Company I out to them sent,
They dismantled my motor, felled trees at my gate,
But the worst of my story is yet to relate,
I was taking my whiskey one night going to bed,
When a rebel appeared and those words to me said,
"Your wife and fair daughters take quickly away
For the ruins of your mansion you'll see before day."
My wife tender hearted she fainted three times,
