  1. A Song

If ever you were born, a preacher for to be, you were born for misfortune, in every degree

This is a song that was composed by Tom Riordan who is more generally known by the title of "Tom Caiste"
    "If ever you were born,
    A poacher for to be,
    You were born for misfortune,
    In every degree,
For you'll be caught so often,
    And you'll be landed there,
    For two months' hard labour,
    Up in the County Jail.
The Caiste strayed down the river bank,
With his gaff all in his hand,
    But Browne the b--y peeler,
    He boldly made him stand,
    Saying, "Stand young man,
    I have you now,
    And do not run away,
And I'll give you three months' hard labour,
    Up in the County Jail."
    So he was summoned,
    And brought before the court,
    And Browne the b--y peeler,
    Upon the bench he swore,
    Long Byrne passed the sentence,
