    I prefer Christmas Day to any day of the year and next to that "Snap-apple" night. Before hand the woman of the house bakes a sweet cake or sometimes buys one. In this cake she puts a ring, a piece of rag, a bit of stick and a coin. It is believed that whoever gets the ring will be the first to be married and whoever is unlucky enough to get the piece of rag, poverty is her share.
    People say it is unlucky to get the bit of stick as the finder is supposed to be the first
