- Some of the people in former times could of course afford to buy boots. But other poor people at one time had no boots to wear. In olden times most of the poor children had to go barefoot Winter and Summer because they had no boots to wear. But nowadays very few children go barefoot in the Summer.
The water used for washing the feet was never kept overnight. An old custom was, when throwing out the water to throw it to the left hand.
