- There are many old customs connected with Hallow E'en There is a cake baked and in the cake is put a ring, a stick, a pea, a bean, and a rag. Who ever got the ring would be married first who ever got the pea would be in poverty, who ever got the bean would be rich and who ever got the stick would be an old maid. An apple was suspended from the ceiling and ran around it twenty times and who ever hit it then would get the apple. A lot of nuts were put in the fire and the nut which cracked the owner of it would be married first.
