  1. Shops were not as common long ago as they are at present. Long ago people had to go to Mallow and other different places to make purchases such as buying food, clothes and other household goods. In my district the public were open from two till seven o clock on Sundays.
    The public houses nowadays are not opened to anyone only to travelers on Sundays before seven o Clock. In my district goods were never bartered. The words that were used in buying or selling were, boot, tick, change, cant earnest and luck.
    Some people consider it unlucky to transact business on Monday or to pay out money.
