    A long time ago there lived in this district a labourer named Shawn Power who was not very well able to talk, and for this reason he was called Shawn Ballavaun. Nevertheless, he was very quick at answering any question that was put to him. One day a farmer went to see how the work was done and great was his surprise to find that the cabbage rows were not in parallel straight lines. "Why did you not get a line Shawn when you were putting down the plants?
    Don't you see the rows are crooked?
    "They will grow as well in a crooked row as well in a straight one".
    This excuse on Shawn's part gave rise to the saying:
    "Like Shawn Ballavaun and the cabbage". This saying is
