- My mother whos ename is Mrs Cremin and who lives in Coolclough told me the following story about old crafts.
When she was a little girl she saw candles being made. The tallow which was got from cow's skin was renderred in an oven or pot, and the wick which was bought in shops was put standing into a long tin called a mould.
The rendered tallow was poured into the mould all round the wick, and it was left for a while to set. Then when the tallow was set it was easy to take out the candle. This was how the old people made candles.
She also told me the following story. The men men made a round basket with twigs whichw as called a "sGíath". When the potatoes were boiled they were put into this "sgíath and the water would flow away. There was also used for drawing home the potatoes.
