- Long ago a man and his wife named Mr. and Mrs. Flynn lived in Ballymaquirk. One day Mrs. Flynn went to Banteer for messages. Her husband asked her to bring him tobacco. She said she would.
She went and when she came home she said she forgot it. When night fell, he went himself.
As he went he met a spirit at Ballymaquirk bridge who was smoking a pipe. He asked her for a smoke, and she gave it him.
She told him that she buried a crock of gold under an oak tree in Dromcummer, and to unearth it. The night after he and his brother unearthed it. They then halved the money.
