- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Irish was spoken by the masters. The master's name was Daniel Roche, who came from Limerick. It was very easy to pay them, they only wanted food and drink. The principal subjects were Latin and Irish.
The Earl of Cork built a school in Taur in 1868. The school was a mixed school. The late Mr. William Walsh of Taur taught the boys and Miss O Shea from Newmarket taught the girls.
In 1875 the present National school was built, and the late Mr William Walsh taught there for some time.
Writing was done with a slate pencil on a slate. The children were seated on stripping sods. The teachers remained for a long time in the district.- Bailitheoir
