roam the country on horse-drawn shelters. It is a common sight to see eight or ten of these caravans pitched for the night on the side of a bye-road. They usually move off, or are driven off by the Guards, after a few days. The best known tribe is the Driscoll clan descendants of the well known faction fighter Mick Driscoll, who died a few years ago at an advanced age. The Sheridans of Limerick call occasionally.
All are persistent and persevering beggars and the trade is done by the women folk and children. When in camp the men folk are conspicuos by their absence probably having spent the night prowling. A few of the men ply their trade of making tin ware which the women sell or use as a blind to avoid being held up for begging.
    (c) In addition to above we have occasional visits from chimney sweeps who get employment in their own line. This is augmented by begging.
They live in portable camps and their stay is short.
