1. A Funny Story - Our Graveyard

   There is a very peculiar story told about our graveyard. Some people say it is true while others do not believe it at all.
   I heard my mother telling the story as follows:-
   There is a river to the north of where the graveyard is at present, called the Shournagh, and it is supposed that the graveyard crossed from the other side of the river. While crossing, a head-stone stayed in the river and can still be seen there. Also there is a grave, where the graveyard was supposed to be before it crossed. This is what the last Parish Priest, whose name was Canon O'Connell, said about it. "It could possibly have removed, as nothing is impossible to God". The district around the graveyard is called Mágh Tehéid, which means "The Plain of the Flight" and this might have some connection with it. Twoomey's house is very near the graveyard and there is no entrance gate to the yard. My father asked one of the Twoomey's why they don't put a gate there, and he said that they put one there a few years ago, but when went out next morning, the gate had fallen on the ground. He then said it must be there the graveyard came through.
