There was a tiny mill for grinding oats into oatmeal in South Horsemount.

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
The grain was left fall down on the currans. The currans were twisted around. And the oatmeal fell down into a pot It was then fit for human use. All the neighbours around the place came every night in turn, to grind their own supply. That was the amusement the people had in the Winter at that time.
The currans were made from limestone. The oats that was growing in the morning, would be cut, threshed and ground into oatmeal for supper that evening. It was the principal food at that time. The man that told me this story saw this working for amusement as a boy. He said that the oat meal ground this way, was as good as the oatmeal ground this present day.

  2. From the Barony of Duhallow
To the bridge of Elbow lane
This place still haunts my memory
    I'd long to see again
Where the small birds sing the sweetest
On the branches of each tree
That overhangs the winding banks of
    The river Gleann dá Fhiadach
