  1. The boys and girls in olden times were over 20 years of age before they wore either shoes or boots.
    I often my grandmother say in her mothers time she knew poor people who never wore a boot in winter or summer. They would tie old pieces of bags around their feet to keep out the cold frost in the winter.
    Some children go barefooted in the summer but other children always wear boots or shoes as they would catch cold easily.
    The old people were very exact about throwing out the water they would wash their feet in and also the delph water.
    They would tell you if it was left in at night or the kitchen not clean that house would be haunted that night.
    Boots are not made locally but they are repaired. There are no shoemakers in this district but the people
