There was an old woman staying in the hotel at the time who died on the first day of the Great Snow from the severe cold. The body had to be kept in the hotel over a week and corruption set in.
After about ten days the snow reduced in depth so that the railway-line could be cleared. The woman then came home by train none the worse for her ordeal.
