- About ten miles to the west of Bantry, in a lonely road, a black dog used to be seen. This dog was of enormous size. The people around this district never liked to visit that road after night.
One day a farmer from that place, was threshing in a neighbour's haggard. It was after night fall, when he was coming home, and he was fairly well drunk, he had a pike in his hand. About a hundred yards off he saw the dog standing across the road.
The nearer the man came to the dog, the bigger the dog was getting. When the farmer came up to the dog, he made an attempt to stick him with the pike, but immediately the dog disappeared.
As the farmer was attempting to stick the dog with the pike he got a severe pain in his arm(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
