Local Sayings.
People say 'God bless the work' to a person milking in case they might overlook the work. Another custom is: if a woman was doing a churning and a stranger to enter whilst she was doing it the stranger would ask the dash from her and churn for a while. If that wasn't done it is believed the churner would never be able to get and butter off the milk, no matter how hard she would try. A woman was supposed to have a dead hand at churning and though she had only one cow she could sell as much butter as all her neighbours together. A neighbour envying her and thinking the cow was a marvellous animal, purched her; but when he got her he found she was like any ordinary cow.
If a person washed their face in the dew on May morning before sunrise they were supposed never to get tanned.
