- My native townland is Cappanrush. It is situated in the parish of Ballyfin, and in the barony of Maryboro' West. It has fifteen families, and a population of about fifty. Of the families, two are Russells, and two Conroys. No other name occurs twice.
The houses in Cappanrush are nearly all slated, two being thatched.
The name of the townland is made up of three Irish words - Ceapach an Ruis - which mean the tillage plot of the wood.
There are four old people in my district.
They are, Miss Thompson, Cappanrush, Ballyfin.
Denis Walsh, Cappanrush, Ballyfin.
Mrs. Russell, Cappanrush, Ballyfin.
Edward Russell, Cappanrush, Ballyfin. They are not story tellers of note. They do not know Irish, but they sometimes use Irish words in their conversation, such as, the bán gap, práiscín and dromán.
As far as can be ascertained, houses were not more numerous formerly than now. As far as I know, people did not emigrate.
