    The landlord for this district was Mr Owens. He lived in Belmont, where the present Mr Hodgen's is living. His assistant was Mr Aird. He evicted six families here in Ballykealy. They looked for a reduction in the rent, but met with a cold refusal. As the people refused to pay, they were evicted, and they had to live out of their homes for some time. 'A land Act' was passed about this time, and the evicted tenants got their reduction. The Walshes returned after a month and the Kelly's and Moylan's were living in little wooden cabins for twelve months.
    Gladly they lived in their huts, sooner than pay an unjust rent, or give in to the demand of an unjust landlord.
    It is a mattler for congratulations that landlordism is a thing of the past, and that the farmers are now only asked to pay a fair rent to the Land Commission.
