   The markets and fairs of these places, their fine shops attract us while the business done in other towns in Monaghan makes no appeal to us. Beyond a visit to some of the County Institutions or a call to the lime kilns in our neighbouring parish I might say that Monaghan County is unknown ground to the dwellers here while Dundalk and Ardee territories are well known and often visited.
   The land here too is good limestone, easily tilled soil and the methods adopted in the neighbouring tillage farmed county have always crept in and became adopted rapidly.
   By way of contrast in the cropping of these two counties and their effect on the lives of the people like me take one example. In Monaghan other than here Flax was a paying crop and grown extensively. The handling of it meant co-operation (meireal) on a large scale; neighbours gathered to aid, then adjourned at night to the particular owner, and talked in fun, or in story
