    There was a bed in the kitchen and it was a press-bed. The fire was placed in the gable wall and the people used to burn turf, and wood There was an old chimney on the roof. The windows were small round holes, some times glass in them, and some times nothing. The floor was made of yellow clay, and tempered by with their feet. There was a half-door in it, to admit the light, and to keep out the fowl. There is a beam of bogdeal over the fire. It was a very warm house. because the walls were very thick.
