  1. Up to recently the people of this locality used to make their own candles. My Grandmother used to make them and she often told me how to make them. When an animal died she collected the tallow and "rendered " it in a big pot. She made wicks by plaiting three woolen threads together. She had a wooden frame with crooks on the end of it to hang the wicks on the frame. She fixed the frame over the pot of melted tallow. Then by raising the handle of the wooden frame the wicks went down into the pot and some of the
