    in the year nineteen hundred and seventeen, it lasted for three whole weeks; and it was fork lightning and it destroyed crops, cattle and sheep. The rumble of the thunder was something terrific, old people thought the last had arrived and during the daytime the local chapels were crowded with people who were praying as they were certain that the end of the world had arrived.
    In Crossna a man, who was driving in cattle from a nearby field was instantly struck dead. Hay ricks were also burned and so were some trees in the forest.
