- In the year 1835 a terrific storm occurred, and this night has always and is always called, "the night of the big wind". On the top of Highwood hill the people could smell the salt of the waves, that were dashed inland for over a distance of forty miles. It only lasted for one night, and one day, but, the damage caused by the same storm was terrific. Four houses were levelled to the ground in Be(?) and the parents and families had to huddle themselves at the back of hay ricks and hedges in order that they too wouldn't be swept away.
There is a story told of a woman who lived in Corrigeenroe and who just managed to escape out of the house bringing a blanket with her.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
