- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)standards and the farmer pushes the movable standard close to the neck of the cow and then places a strap of iron around the top of the standard which is made especially to fit it, to keep it from moving.
The rope used for tying cows is often made at home out of hair cut from the cows tails. This hair is twisted into a long "Súgán" to a certain length then it is doubled and plaited leaving a loop at one end. There is a bit of timber got for the other end about four inches long. Then there is a groove cut around the bit of timber to enable the rope to be tighted around it. The hair rope is put around the cow's legs and the bit wood put through the loo[ to make a hair-rope tying. Cows are neber tied by the horns or leg.
