- A mermaid has often appeared around the coast of Renvyle. A mermaid is like any woman except that she has a swimming tail around her waist and legs.
She can remove this tail whenever she wished. She sometimes sits up on the rocks sunning herself with the tail beside her.
If a person comes on her when she has the tail off it is very easy to catch her.
There is a story told of a man from Clare Island who caught a mermaid. He came on her while she was sunning her hair on the rocks. She had the hair down over her face and her tail beside her. The man's name was Toole.
He brought her home and hid the. He married her and they had two children one at least of which was a boy(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
