A crowd of tinkers named Donovans come to Rahealy about once every two months.

A crowd of tinkers named Donovans come to Rahealy about once every two months. They are from Mayo.
They sell many small articles such as tie pins, shirt studs, boot laces, tooth brushes, clothes brushes and tin cans. It is in a big basket they carry all they have for sale. They buy asses, horse hair, and feathers. They beg alms and if they get them they say a prayer but if they are refused they curse. The chief prayer they say when you give them anything is "the Lord may bless you."
There is an old fort in Coxtown which can be seen yet. There are many big banks of clay around it. In the middle there is a big hole going into the ground.
It is said that it was made by the Irish when Cromwell was in Ireland so that when they saw Cromwell's soldiers coming they could hide in it.
The people believe that if you could get into the end of it you would find old guns and swords.
If you stood on the top of that fort you could see another one about a mile distant.
