    considered unlucky to drive home the married couple. Two or three melodians all playing a different tune. Bon fires were lit along the road and flaming wisps of straw made the horses go madder than ever. At the door of the bridegroom's home the couple knelt down while an oaten cake was broken over their heads, after which the bride was carried over the threshold into her new home.
    The wedding then went on in the same manner as the match-making. Plenty to eat but above all plenty of porter. Uninvited guests disguised with straw and called "Straw Boys" often came to the wedding. They got enough to drink but were never welcome.
