Before tea or sugar was ever heard of in this country they enjoyed a hearty breakfast on noggins of porridge sweetened with honey.
The principal meal was generally made up of potatoes and good home butter or home cured bacon. They made a drink from crushed corn called Flummery which was used at supper with wheaten bread and butter.
As a general rule they lived to be very old and were never known to suffer from any form of toothache or nerve trouble.
