  1. Long ago the old people had a lot of prayers. They had a prayer for everything they did. When they would be getting up in the morning they would say :-
    Good morning, bright day,
Sweet Jesus guard me the right way,
    Keep my soul from sin,
    My body from shame,
I get up this morning in God's holy Name.
And when they would be going to bed they would say :-
As I lie down to sleep,
I give my soul to God to keep,
    If any evil touches me,
    Blessed Virgin save me.
