  1. The people in Gallowhill long ago had cures for animals as well as persons.
    Here is the way they cured a cow that would take a "derb" when she would be drinking water.
    A "derb" is a small little black fly with a hard back which lives in water, and if she was not cured before three days it would kill her. They would get three of the "derbs" and tie them in a red flannel cloth and hang them on the "crook" over the fire, and when they were dead, the one in the cow's stomach would be dead.
