   had none. After the hunger the people got sick and many of them died with the fever.
   In the year of the Famine the road leading from Swinford to Kilkelly was made. The way the people were paid was. they used to get a ticket for four stone of meal per week. At that time people had no coffins to bury the people who died with the fever but they had to make a big hole and throw all into it.
   The Government did not give much relief to the country the first year.
   Mrs. Morely said her father had bags of meal up to the ceiling and people used to come to him for a nogginful of meal. He never refused them until the bag was half empty and then he used not give any more. Sometimes they used to come in their knees begging for some meal.
