  1. My village which is Rooskey is an old village and there are a lot of names on the fields in it. The following are some of the names. Gort na Nóin, Sean Pholl, Cúl gan Tighe, Carraigín Árd, Gairdín na Gríocaidhe, Sean Phortach, Garra Fada, Garra na gCrumpán, Gort na Tráigh.
    Gort na Nóins means the field of the daisies because every year the field is covered with daisies.
    Sean Pholl means the old hole.
    Cúl gan Tighe means the field behind the house because that field is situated behind my uncle's house,
    Carraigín Árd means the high rocks because in that field there are a great many high rocks.
    Gairdín na Gríocaidhe means the garden near the sech because near the field there is an old sech, a sech is an old hole in the bog with moss growing on the mouth of it and if you stepped into it you would get swallowed up.
    Sean Phorthach means the old bog because that bog is hundreds of years old.
    Garra Fada means the the long field.
    Garra na gCrumpán means the field of the chrumpáns because in the field there are alot of crumpáns. These crumpán's are generally the remains of deal which are dug out of the ground.
    Gort na Traigh means the field of the strand because near it there is an old sandy place.
