It is said that when the Holy Family were journeying to Egypt that the Blessed Vergin needed a strong common pin for her shawl to keep to round her devine child... There were tin smiths or tinkers on the roadside and St Joseph asked one to make a pin for her but he said he had no time. Then he went to the Blacksmith and asked him to do the same. He willingly did this. As a result the Blessed Vergin [sic] said that the tin smith would never have a home to shelter him and that the Blacksmith would never be poor or rich but that he would always have enough.
Some say that the smith has power ever since and that if you anger him he can turn his anvil and bring you ill luck.
