They starched the collars and cuffs for the men. When the men would dress up in their white starched collars and cuffs and they looked much nicer than the men do now. The women wore white caps and white aprons and these aprons were as stiff as a piece of wood. The wore these aprons going to wakes, at funerals, and at weddings also. They made the aprons themselves from their own linen made from flax they grew themselves in their own land. The aprons were ornamented with embroidery and flounces.
