  1. The people took great care of their feet long ago. They minded them from being cut or any other sore coming on them. They never wore any shoes, only when they were going to Mass. A pair of shoes held them five or six years. When they went to a friend's house far away a pan of water and a towel were given to them and they washed their feet. They also washed them every night. The one pan of water did all the people of one house. When every one's feet in the house were washed the water was thrown out. If it were left inside some-
