    priests of the Diocese of Kilmore are said to have got their early education there. Rev. Mr. White's father came from Pottle, near Bailieboro.

  2. Long centuries ago it is said that a former town existed at Shercock. It was situated on a beautiful site to the north west of the present town. In the middle of the town was an enchanted well surrounded by a granite wall and protected by a stone door. A warning was inscribed over the door not to leave the door unshut after drawing water from the well, or evil consequences might follow.
    It so happened that one day a maiden came to draw water from the well and being in a hurry she forgot to close the door. She had
