    The varities kinds of potatoes grown locally are, Majestics, Epicures, (Shap) Sharpes Expresses Arran Pilots, Arran banners, Kerrs Pinks and Blue Banners.
    The potatoes are dug in Autumn with a digger and the farmers get others to help them.
    Potatoes are sprayed in July to prevent the blight from destroying them.

  2. Wake and Funeral Customs

    When people go to "wakes" the men are supplied with pipes which are full of tobacco and they also get more of it, in case they might stay the whole night.
    In some houses all the people sing hymns till about twelve o'clock at night.
    It is the custom for all the people who are at the wake to sit round the fire and talk about the person who is dead.
    The people of the house are supposed to give all the people at the "wake" tea and in some houses
