As well as wrestlers, we had in Coragh some famous long-distance jumpers in the long ago. Philip Donohue was considered one of the finest jumpers of the period and as well as this accomplishment he was a very fast runner. One of his finest feats at jumping and running was performed in Coragh bog at dawn on a summer's morning.
This Philip and his brother Tom were making poteen in the southern portion of Coragh bog when they were surprised by the Revenue men. In them days the Custom Officials were called the Revenue men and the police then had got nothing to do at the finding or searching for poteen.
It seems that information was lodged at head-quarters that this man Donohue was having a brewing and as Donohue and his brother were carrying out the distillation commencing at 12 o'clock at mid-night they were surprised to hear the trump of Revenue men at a little distance off.
