  2. There was a National School in Raffoney about fifty years ago. It was situated along Raffoney Lane, in a little triangular field, now owned by Jimmy Maguire. In the beginning the teachers were not very good but the served the purpose. There was a teacher in this school named McGuinness. A Master Paterson also taught in this school while during the latter years of its existence Mrs Farrell from this town taught in it.
    The school was a thatched one. When it closed down Ardlow School was built to take its place.
    Slates and slate pencils were used in the school, I often found bits
