  1. The people get married before lent and advent. The unlucky months to get married were the months of May and August and the unlucky days were Thursday and Saturday. The local custom on Shrove Tuesday were making pan-cakes. Long ago there were a good many matches made in the district. Long ago when any one would get married the bride would borrow something to wear on that day for good luck. I do not remember marriages taking place in the district. The custom observed on a wedding day was to throw rice after the bride. The wedding feast was held in the bride's house. When any got married the Banbeggers dressed in straw and went to the house on that night. Some of them got drink and some of them money. Long ago when the people were married they used to go for a drive and then the man would bring home the woman. In olden times the people used to ride on horse back and run for the bottle.
