  1. Long ago the people had different methods for dyeing clothes from what they have now. They did it in this way. They pulled the ivy leaves and boiled them in water for two hours. Then they lifted them up and strained them so as to separate the leaves from the water. They put the clothes into this water, and boiled them for about an hour. Then they lifted them up and wrung them out of the water, and that gave them a black dye.
