  1. Long ago the old people used different food to what we use to day. They used very little stuff out of the shops such as tea or loaves or coffee. They made boxty bread from the potatoes. They made a sour kind of a drink called "Sowens" to use instead of milk. They baked oaten bread on an iron called a "Griddle".
    Their chief support was potatoes, salt, oaten bread, boxty bread, stirabout and sowens.
